From the JSIA Newsletter:

Greg Toppo, a reporter for USA TODAY, is working on a story about
"America," the new Jon Stewart book, and would like to talk to
teenagers who have read it. He's interested in finding out if they have
brought it to class, whether teachers have shown interest in the book
and/or whether there have been attempts to ban the book from school or
discourage students from bringing it in. He is trying to finish
reporting by the end of the week and can be contacted by phone
(703-854-3467) or e-mail: gtoppo@usatoday.com

Wal Mart refuses to sell The Daily Show Book at their store (but they still do on their website)

http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/books/10/21/wal.mart.no.nudes.ap/index.html

Yeah, I guess I can understand that. I don't think I've seen the book at big stores [like Target] either. I guess like little kids can find that naked page and show their parents in the store, or teenagers can leave that page open and give old people heart attacks, I guess.

Oh, and another thing.

Remember last night's TDS when Ed was talking about the head guy from Coors running for something (Congress?) in Colorado? Remember a few months ago I brought up that Ed was going to be in a Coors ad in the Ed blog (no of course you don't because nobody reads that)? And then like after the ad was shot, Mr. Coors decided to run for congress, and since he was in the ad that Ed's in, the ad was never shown.

Well, during the report last night, the camera did a close up on Ed and I thought maybe Ed would make a remark about the ad that he did that was never aired.

this is a rerun . . . the site mentions Steve Kroft, who interviewed

DRUDGE DEALS IN SLUDGE (WHAT ELSE IS NEW?)
JUMPS ON THE FAKE NEWS BANDWAGON WITH INACCURATE REPORT THAT
"DAILY SHOW" RATINGS ARE DOWN

--------
Et Tu, Matt? Drudge Report Posts Story Falsely Claiming Ratings
For "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" Down For Month Of September
--------
Nielsen Media Research Shows Ratings For Emmy Award-Winning News Satire Up 7% Vs. August 2004*
--------

NEW YORK, October 19, 2004 -- If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" has a huge fan in Matt Drudge. Drudge jumped on the fake news bandwagon yesterday, posting a report that falsely claimed "surprise audience erosion" for the critically-acclaimed and Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series.
According to the fake news report posted by Drudge, "The Daily Show" "pulled 1,040,000 total viewers for the month of September -- down 7% from August, the Drudge Report has learned." Apparently Drudge, like "The Daily Show," has no compulsion to actually fact-check his "sources." According to Nielsen Media Research, "The Daily Show" averaged 1,247,000 viewers in September, which was up +7% vs. August. Even taking into account a dark week for the show when repeats aired, "The Daily Show" averaged 1,149,000 viewers, which was also up vs. August (+2%).
In fact, "The Daily Show" recently enjoyed the single most-viewed telecast in its illustrious 8-year history on September 30 with 2.4 million viewers tuning in to the show's live post-debate coverage of the first Presidential Debate in Coral Gables, FL. That incredible performance contributed to the show's record-setting most-watched week in its history with an average of 1.5 million viewers. And the show continues to roll in October, averaging 1,278,000 viewers per new episode, up +13% over September. To date, viewership for "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" is up +25% vs. 2003.

NEW YORK, October 18, 2004 -- Doesn't the Supreme Court decide who becomes President? This Election Night, COMEDY CENTRAL's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" will present the culmination of its "Indecision 2004" coverage with a special primetime presentation entitled "Election Night 2004: Prelude to a Recount" that will air live from 10:00 p.m. ā€“ 11:00 p.m. ET.*
"Prelude to a Recount" will repeat immediately following its conclusion at 11:00 p.m. and later that night at 1:00 a.m. as well as on Wednesday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
With a start time of 10:00 p.m., the one-hour special edition of the award-winning news parody will air well before most polls have closed and incorporate many commercial interruptions, so as to avoid any appearance of complete legitimacy. Host Jon Stewart and the entire "Daily Show" News Team (correspondents Samantha Bee, Stephen Colbert, Rob Corddry, Ed Helms and special contributor Lewis Black) will be on hand to provide the quality news coverage TV viewers have come to be crushed by including: live check-ins from candidate headquarters (faked), up-to-the-minute tallies of where the electoral college stands (inaccurate), and insight from political analysts who've covered every election since Coolidge (who?).

Jon's on the cover of TV Guide next week. It's just basically the same thing we've heard 3 billion times, that more young people are getting news from shows like TDS. zzz.

Sorry about the address thing being blurred out on the scan of the cover. I hate it that TV Guide prints your address on the cover now, instead of using the sticky label that you could easily take off. My mom told me that when I was a little kid the first thing I'd do when we got the TV Guide was take that address label off. She also told me that I used to collect TV Guides when I was three, but my collection got so big that she threw it away. She's kicking herself for it now.

GMGoodwrench.com - Who Is Mr. Goodwrench?

In regards to my earlier post, there is now a screen saver with a cartoon Stephen playing his Mr. Goodwrench character.

There is a new Stephen Colbert/ Who Is Mr. Goodwrench ad playing now:

And I'm about to go update the ticker right now. I've been keeping a "paper ticker" since September 20th. That's bad, I know.

And what's the deal with Dr. Phil's obsession with spanking? It's getting a little creepy...

From Sarah's blog:

how could i not have ever noticed "seach internet" listed under the
file menu on my desktop? ..ever? until now? that's so weird. heh, it opens
sherlock 2. well, i prefer google to search my internet over sherlock 2, anyway.

speaking of sherlock 2 (which is mac's 'find' application, or at least the
version on this system anyway).. i've always wondered what is the deal with that
random woman at the top? i click on her and i get some message about
"search sites" in a "channel", but who is she and what does
she have to do with searching the internet? ...she's always reminded me of nancy
walls, for some reason. {g} (pre-tds of course)

The Phone Should Be Ringing Off The Hook Any Minute Now

Apparently, Ed Helms mentioned my site in a new magazine:
(from one of my live journal friends)

Hey, I'm not sure if you've seen this or not, but I'm assuming you haven't since I didn't see a post about it in either your journal or your Ed Helms community. There is a new magazine on the market called "GIANT"; I bought the first issue this past weekend at the Books-A-Million in Hampton. It's not really an interview with Ed, but they talked to him about the web pages he uses on a daily/weekly basis, mainly stuff he has bookmarked. The last one he talks about is this:

anitasdailyshowpage.tripod.com/thesouptimenerd

"My little narcissistic nod to Anita, who's this crazy
fan. She's transcribed almost every segment I've ever done. It's an awesome
resource. The writers have used it to pull old segments for things. Believe it
or not, there's no database for that here on the show. You have to root through
old logs and stuff."

If your interested in seeing it for yourself, it is on page 88 of the magazine.

Comedy Central Press Release:

Last night's (9/30/04) post-debate telecast "Indecision 2004" presentation entitled "The Bush-Kerry Debate: The Squabble in Coral Gables" of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart was the show's best episode ever.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is on track to deliver its best year ever in 2004. The series averages 1.1 million viewers a night, which is up almost +25% vs. viewership at this same point last year.

You guys, I just missed Stephen, Samantha and a bunch of TDS writers on Deborah Norville tonight by milliseconds. I was flipping through the channels, and I saw Stephen--as he was saying thanks to Deborah.
